Portobello Road is at risk from the Clone Town Britain syndrome. Already our street is littered with big-name chain coffee stores - Starbucks and Caffe Nero - not to mention a host of other non-independent latte-serving cafes, such as Progresso. Also there is now encroachment of a number of low-end fashion chains who, kindly out, wish to be in Portobello via association. Association with its self made traditions of independence, uniqueness, and neighbourhood vitality. A link that will eventually, if not checked by strict planning enforcement, will simply drain the life blood of the market.

We seek for each shop on Portobello Road to retain a unique frontage, for the majority of shops to be primairly for sole trader retail, for the stalls to remain the prime attraction and the continued focus of the market.
